Fishing, AGAIN! Woohoo! Albino?

I think Spencer and I have gone fishing three times since I last wrote the post about our fishing trip.  We've been fishing on the Logan River four times in the past few weeks.  Today was a particularly fun day.  We actually had a really slow go of it until we got to one hole that was full of fish we could see.  Spencer caught a nice rainbow out of it, but then we kept seeing some others that looked a bit yellow.  They were weird.  I kind of became obsessed as three of these yellowish fish were all in that hole and would occasionally react to what we threw at them.  I almost caught one by accidentally hooking it in the side, but it quickly got off.  We tried just about everything we had, but to no avail.  Finally we gave up and moved on.  Then just past that hole I saw another yellow fish on the opposite bank.  I cast almost to him a couple times and he looked interested in my fly.  Finally I landed one right where I wanted it and he came flying out of the water and nailed it.  He's the albino rainbow you see in these fine cell phone photos I have here.  (Thanks Spence!)  I was really excited to have finally caught one of the yellow fish so I could see what was up with them.  I also caught a nice brown trout shortly thereafter.  As you can see I was having a good time.  Spencer and I are almost definitely going to be up there as long as it's warm enough.  (My fingers were numb from the cold water!)
Hmm... pretty sure there's other stuff that I really wanted to write about in here, but oh well.  Sorry about the lack of entries of late.  I've been distracted by a Bulgarian named Claus.   Random stuff.

Ok, well, see you later!

Fishing...

I went fly fishing today on the Logan River. It was fun. Not super successful by any means, but I did enjoy it. Spencer and I went up the canyon, and as it was Labor Day, everyone and their dogs (literally, we saw dogs) went up there as well. It was hard to find a good spot to fish, but once we finally found a decent stretch of open water I started seeing fish rise. I missed a couple fish, had a fairly decent one break my fly off, and I caught one small cutthroat. Good enough for me! (I always say that I'm glad if I can catch just one fish.) Unfortunately Spencer got skunked. I think we'll probably end up fishing up there at least once more before the frosty death that is winter seizes our lives.

LSAT studying is getting a bit more intense now that the test is fast approaching. (It's on the 26th) I got my best score ever on my practice test I took tonight. So I'm feeling more confident this time around. We'll see how things are going as I get closer to the big deal.

Alright, well I'm going to bed now. G'night!

Campin', Fishin', Hikin', Burnin'

I'm sorry. I don't know why it is, but I always have to use the apostrophe instead of the G's in those words. Anyway, I did all of those things yesterday and today. (Well, the last one was done to me by the sun.) I really love camping, and I really really love fishing. I've been wanting to go camping since this last winter, and now that summer is almost over I finally got to do it. We went to southern Utah and camped in the Boulder Mountain area. We fished at a couple different lakes. Yesterday we fished at the lake near where we camped called Lower Bowns Reservoir. It was AWESOME. I caught about 10 fish in just a few hours of fishing. They were all about 9-13 inch rainbows, so there wasn't much variety, but it was dry-fly fly fishing at its best. I love it. I also got to don my waders for the first time this year. (Except for the fly fishing winter disaster mentioned around the beginning of this blog in March-ish.) After a frigid night in a tent, we decided to go to Oak Creek Reservoir which is at the top of a two and half mile road. I use the term road, but the street sign called it a "primitive road." In other words, unless your vehicle is a mountain climber, do not pass go, do not collect $200. So we hiked up there. (Impressively, my 2 nephews made it up there and back down in good shape, including Jacob who's just 6. He let us know it was hard for him, but he was a trooper.) I caught zero fish. I was, however, glad to have done the hike, and I still had an enjoyable time. My dad and his friend Lyle caught quite a few brook trout. So there's the short of the trip regarding the first three verbs in the title of this post. As for the fourth, OUCH!!! My skin is pretty fair, and burns very easily in the sun. I tend to look bright red after a day in the sun. (Hence many jokes from my friends and family including: I look like a lobster, I'm Rudolph the Red-nosed Reindeer (my nose is usually included in all the burning), and my personal favorite, I don't get sun burned, I get sun RAPED!) My hands look like I'm wearing red gloves right now, and my neck is highly uncomfy, but I'm fine. Unfortunately, I probably have skin cancer in my future.

Well, there was my summer adventure. I'm glad I got to have a good one. I'm tuckered out!

We climbed to the top of some red rock formations. (This is me and my nephews Jacob and Ryan.)

Me with Oak Creek Reservoir. It was a fun hike. Long, but beautiful country. This would be a beautiful picture, if there wasn't that ugly lake in it. (Oh, and I'm not wearing my hat backwards to be cool, it was my failed attempt at shading my neck.)

Wednesday Thoughts...

U2 might not be my favorite band anymore. Their newest album is not great. Not great at all. There isn't one song on there that I really like. It's all just blah-music. I gave No Line On The Horizon a 3 of 5 stars on Amazon. A 3 OF 5! That's just weird for me to think that low of a U2 album. I'm thinking it might be time for those guys to pack it in. Bono's voice is NOT even close to the same these days. So that's a bummer.

Turns out water freezes when the temperature outside is less than 32ºF outside. DID YOU KNOW THAT?! Spencer and I tried to go flyfishing this morning. It was fun for the first 5 minutes until I realized that my line was no longer moving through my rod... and then I saw the newly formed ice chunks in each of the eyelets on the rod. Not great. We only fished for about 20 minutes total. Sorry Spence!

Clear plastic containers are not the most appetizing way to present a burger. Spencer and I stopped at the Dairy Keen in Heber just after our sad attempt at fishing, which I'm now calling "Spencer's First Wading Lesson," and got some food. I ordered a "Train Burger." It was a great burger, had ham on it, wonderful tasting thing. But they give it to you in a clear plastic container like you'd expect when you receive a nice brownie or a cheesecake slice. This is very much not appetizing. The burger humidifies its little glass box... then the bottom... oh the bottom... it shows every last drop of leakage that most burger wrappings would disguise or absorb. Again... not the most appetizing presentation. It was a kick-trash burger otherwise.

Well, there's three Wednesday Thoughts for you. The End.
