File-Diving Adventure: "Beau"

Howdy y'all.  I'm having a pretty good weekend actually.  It seems like things are falling into place for me to be able to finish everything I need to.  We'll see how my last two big projects actually turn out.  They might not be great... but oh well.

I was just looking through my files and discovered a really random story that I wrote for KAVE TV... in other words it was going to be made into a goofy high school film productions class movie, but it never was.  Despite how badly I wanted to edit it and make it a bit better, I'll show it to you exactly as it was:

 Beau
And His Wacky Love Mishaps
Beau sat alone.  He couldn’t get his mind off his impending bout with insanity.  Work wore him down, it had been raining for almost a straight month it seemed, and the rent was long overdue.  The restaurant seemed to be a place of escape for him.  It wasn’t the most successful of restaurants, which meant it was quiet.  Beau liked quiet.
For years Beau had lived alone.  He lacked the courting abilities of many of his friends, and he knew that he was the worst looking man on his block.  Beau’s quiet little restaurant escape offered little contact with women as they very seldom passed through its doors.  Today, Beau couldn’t get his mind off of his search for a mate that seemed so distant from an end that he’d even considered moving to live with his polygamist brother.
Then as though a radiant light burst through the doors, a very attractive woman strolled in.  Beau got a better look at her, and realized she wasn’t all that attractive.  The sight   of a female was shock enough for him to stare.  She was a sort of round and plain looking woman.  Beau felt as though he was living the one last chance he had at meeting a woman.
Beau prepared his nerves and walked briskly to her table.
“Nice weather we’re having, right?” Beau said.  He realized that probably wasn’t the greatest opener.
Then the woman replied in a sort of gruff voice, “Go away, you’ll ruin everything!”  Then as though someone unpleasant had looked her way, the woman quickly averted her eyes to the table in front of her.  Beau wasn’t completely out of the game yet, and decided to ask her name.
“Chi....Chippette,” came the hesitant reply.  “Now go away!”
Beau wandered back to his table and sat back down.  There was something that Beau didn’t see about this woman.  She was in actuality, a he.  His name was Chip.  He’s an undercover agent on an extremely risky mission to watch the Canadian Mafia of northern Idaho.  Chip made his way out of the restaurant fearing that his cover had been blown.
Beau wasn’t going to let this chance at love slip away.  He followed who he thought was Chippette out the door.  Chip walked quickly toward his hotel, and Beau followed close on his heels.  Chip’s gun suddenly slipped loose and fell to the sidewalk below.  Beau quickly picked it up attempting to be a gentleman.  (He didn’t realize how strange it was that a woman of her age was carrying around a loaded pistol.)
“Oh, let me help you out with that,” Beau said.  On the way up to her face, Beau noticed she had extremely hairy legs in the hot pink skirt she wore.  “Date her first then try to fix her,” he thought to himself.
Chip was about to let Beau know that he was a man and was freaking out due to this unwelcome attention, but the leader of the Potato Gang of north eastern Idaho came out of the bar they were in front of.  Chip quickly stuffed his gun in his skirt and giggled at Beau.  The Potato gangster knew Chip well from his many visits to Chip’s station.
Beau was a little confused, but encouraged by the laughter.  He finally asked Chippette if she would go to a movie with him.  Suddenly the bar that the Potato gangster had just left blew up!  The blow blew Chip and Beau across the street and conveniently into the pillow factory’s garbage bin.
Beau leaned over toward Chippette, and in his confusion was still expecting an answer from the woman.  He looked over and saw two oranges that had been jogged loose from Chip's bra.  He finally realized the horrible truth!  He had been hitting on a man!  In   embarrassment he started to run away, but was stopped by the excited yell of Chip.
“Thanks to you the Canadian Mafia of northern Idaho was just blown up, and I wasn’t in their restaurant anymore!  You saved me, and the mafia’s potato dealin’ and stealin’ days are over!”  Chip was so excited he then yelled, “I’ll do anything to show you my gratitude!”
Beau stopped and thought for a second, and then asked, “Could you help me get a date?”
Chip later introduced Beau to his half-sister Wendy.  Beau and Wendy got married in Las Vegas four days after their first date, and it finally stopped raining in Beau’s hometown!

Well, there you have it.  I'm an AMAZING writer, right?  If I could have edited it I wouldn't have informed the reader so early that Chippette was a man or a spy.  Oh well.  Cest la vie!  Well, I'm off to enjoy what relaxation time I have left on this fine Sunday afternoon.  Adios!

File-Diving Adventure: High school Journalism article...

I haven't had a File-Diving Adventure in quite a while. I just discovered my folder full of stuff from my journalism days in high school. Our monthly school newspaper was called the Forkaster. Journalism was a really fun class. I loved it. Anyway, I had a column called "What in the World?" It was just weird news stories. Here was one month's column:
What in the World?
The great thing about writing this column is that the world never stops being weird. The Associated Press has reported that since the anthrax attacks in 2001, the United States Postal Service has had over 20,000 "powder" scares. In twenty-thousand different instances people have had various substances leaking out of packages or envelopes, and they have mistaken it for a harmful powder such as anthrax. This is to be expected after the exaggerated threat was spread all around the media.
People were starting to open their mail with gloves, or having their dogs sniff the mail before they opened it. It got a little out of hand.
A few of the powder scares involved wedding invitations. How could wedding invitations give anyone an anthrax scare? Well, supposedly there was a couple having their wedding ceremony on the beach, and they thought it would be really cool if they sent their invitations with sand in the envelopes. I'm sure they had a few startled relatives that decided to forgo the wedding gift. That's just sad. You'd think someone would have enough sense to realize that putting sand in the envelopes wasn't a good idea.

Not that any of you would have noticed, but...

I decided I don't really feel like doing a normal Wednesday Thoughts tonight. I think I'd rather have a FILE-DIVING ADVENTURE! Here is my very first map that I created in my cartography class. It sucks. But here ya go nonetheless...

It wasn't originally this pixelly, but I made it bigger so you could see it a bit better.

Ok, well, I don't have much to say. The north arrow wouldn't work in Adobe, so it's the line on the right. There's crime in Alabama? *Jeff runs away.*

I'm nocturnal... time to file-dive!

It's finally happened. The last two nights I couldn't sleep until the sun had started coming up. Isn't that just WRONG?!! I can hear the birds chirping as I'm falling asleep. There's seriously something wrong with me, and I need to reverse my life. I am determined to change and wake up at a semi-normal hour and, more importantly, go to bed at a normal hour! I seriously have been having weird issues from it all. So I'm just announcing it so that you can all help me change.

Anyway, I'm not really sure what would make this blog any better... if any of you have ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Here's a file-diving adventure:

Haha! This is from my "KAVE TV" class in high school. During my senior year all of my friends and I took a film-productions class. This was a simple assignment where we had to come up with a "mockumentary" idea. Here is my idea that I came up with:

Teenage
Hyperactive
Don’t
Wanna
Do
My
Homework
Disorder
“The Story of Jeff Ricks” Have “hidden” cameras on Jeff on a night when he should be doing homework. Show his THDWDMHD in action.(Me going crazy) Have “Professor” say things like: “THDWDMHD is a very rare disorder, in fact, it’s only found in the person of Jeff Ricks.” or... “THDWDMHD is characterized by excessive pen-clicking or spinning.” or... “The subject will try at moments to do his homework, but always the temptation to click the pen takes over, and there ya go. He’s off playing with something or other and acting like an ape. If I didn’t know better I’d say he has the worst case of “the psychotic crazies” in the world. But I know better.”

So that was my great idea. I'm guessing that I wanted to turn my unproductive hyperness into a productive idea and conquer. I really miss that class, it was fun. Anyway, that's all I have for you. I'm watching the Survivor: Tocantins finale.

Summer-no-time...

It's kind of funny how it's the time of year that I've been CRAVING for so long, and yet it's most redeeming quality doesn't seem too available. I LOVE getting done with school for the summer because usually my stress just melts away and I have extra time to kill in whatever non-productive way I deem fit. However, this year, I've BEEN SO BUSY! I got all moved home last Thursday and then had Anthony's wedding all day Friday. Saturday I started getting my car registered, while I passed the emissions, I failed the safety test due to my windows being tinted, and then there was Nate's bachelor party, Sunday was fairly normal, yesterday I tried to get my tinting removed but had to set an appointment for today, mowed the lawn, tried to find a job, finally cleaned all my stuff and officially moved in to my room, and saw a movie. (Ok, I realize that this all isn't all THAT bad... but I'm getting to a point... somewhere along the line here...) Today I had to go remove the tinting from my car windows that kept me from passing my safety inspection on Saturday, I had to go actually finish getting my car registered, I bought LSAT prep stuff, tried to find a job (even my backup jobs aren't really working out at this point...), cleaned my car, fixed my mom's toilet, etc. SO the whole point of that meaningless rant was to say sorry for not writing on my blog! (That may sound dumb to my handful of followers, but alas, I was chewed-out for not writing enough tonight!) So, Jenny, I'm writing! I think I'll spice this entry up by making this another FILE-DIVING ADVENTURE!!! Here we go.......

OH WOW! I just found the WEIRDEST poem that I had to have written when unable to sleep or on some sort of drowsiness-causing medicine... umm... I can't believe I'm letting people know that I wrote such a psycho poem, but here you go. Here's a poem entitled "Find Your Period and Cease":

No one knows what me.
Somehow I don’t really think I know me.
One knows me, but I don’t.
My thinking drives all around,
But never really arrives.
Where do I go?
What should I do?
When will I?
Sleep only fades out one day,
Awake fades in another.
What will happen?
Yes, no. What are the answers.
Up down. What direction.
Never, forever. I’m lost.
Am I good?
Am I bad?
Am I important?
Am I empty?
Am I valuable?
Am I worthless?
Am I worth one?
Am I worth none?
No one knows what me.
One knows me, but I don’t.

Choose your own mystery.
Pick your story.
Where will you go?
Where are you going?
Are you ready?
Be prepared.
Are you good?
You wish for a star to fly past.
Your life has a cast,
And you’re the hero.
That’s what they tell you.
But what hero?
Can you tell?
Break it down to you.
You’re just a question.
Find your period and cease.
You’re not the same.
You can’t.
You won’t.
You will.
You can.
You.
Pick your story.
Find your period and cease.

Well, there ya go. Uh, yeah... please don't stop being my friend! :) JK. See, Jeff's File-Diving Adventures can indeed be ADVENTUROUS!!!

Thursday's File-Diving Adventure:

So, I was thinking that I like doing a Wednesday Thoughts every Wednesday. I decided that I need to start another weekly event. This time I decided that I would dig through all my old files from yesteryears and let you read them. For our first "File-Diving Adventure" I have a one-page quick-write that I wrote my senior year of high school. We had to base it on a statement made by a fellow class member. You lucky reader, here ya go:
Jeff Ricks
2-17-04

“Ignorance is bliss, or mandatory in some cases.”
Sandy Schaefer’s quote, “Ignorance is bliss, or mandatory in some cases,” is an interesting addition to a very popular cliché. I wouldn’t say that it’s extremely profound, but it is applicable to some of life’s situations. There are times that ignorance would be considered mandatory. There are questions that we ask others in order to gauge their opinions, but sometimes they just have to leave us in the dark.
The instance that best validates Schaefer’s opinion are when questions like, “Do I look good today?' are asked. Often even the worst looking people in the world will receive a positive answer to this question. It’s required that we simply leave things be every so often. If there is something that a person just can’t change, then I think it’s better to simply make them feel better about it. Would you ask a zebra to change its stripes?
There are times when Schaefer’s words are applicable, but they don’t necessarily stir any great life changing epiphanies to me. You can’t always fill everyone in about everything. But that’s something that we learn as children. Kids will often inadvertently insult people by stating the truth. My niece recently told me I had a funny haircut. Not to say that hurt me, but I could definitely see someone becoming upset by that. Perhaps this quote is most valuable for reviewing a lesson we all may have forgotten.
So, there ya go! There's a bit of Jeff-Thought from high school. Hopefully future reads will be even more interesting. :)
