Ricks v. Sneezing

The title of today's certainly muddled and tossed blog post was inspired by one of the most distractingly joyful thoughts I've ever had in the midst of my terrifying Contracts class. My professor was answering questions and sneezed. As if on the wings of a Spangled Drongo, (which also doubles as a sweet fake insult!) to my mind came a most hilarious image. I tried to post my idea spawned by this image to my facebook status, but was defeated by weaksauce reception in my classroom. Just as well, I've saved the hilarity for my blog-reading faithful.
Enough ado, I decided it would be hilarious to throw confetti in the air every time I sneezed in public. I really want to try it out on the metro. I know I'm a nerd, but you have to admit that it would make you laugh if you saw someone do it. My plan is to carry confetti in my shirt pocket next time I'm in public and I'll just wait for that perfect moment. It helps too that I have rather loud sneezes. (The Infamous Ellison Sneeze. (TIES)) So, it was incredibly hard for me not to LOL in my class at the thought of having a TIES whilst throwing confetti in the air. For some reason I think that it needs to be big pieces of shiny confetti. Big sequins? Anyway, there's my most random thought of the day. Hope you enjoyed it.

So, grades turned out alright. I definitely feared they would be worse. These grades I can at least work with. Finding summer work has kind of been a big distraction and a bit of a hassle, but I'm feeling better now that I know I have a safety-net in a school program that I'm interviewing for next week. It's just hard when I have so much up in the air. It will all fall into place though.

A very interesting piece of news, I had a blood test the other day, and turns out I no longer have hypoglycemia! So... apparently I just get headaches a lot. When I don't eat. I don't get it. I'm always tired and don't have energy either. Must be something else, or, more frightening I think, it's all in my head. I haven't had a chance to talk to my doctor about it again, but the sugar addict in me almost decided to rush out and buy a couple packs of cookies to down instantly to make up for lost sugar time. So, that was unexpected, but kinda cool at the same time. One less thing to stress about.

Another act of nerdery: I just took the Jeopardy! Online Test. That's right. I'm going to be on Jeopardy! Well... probably not, but it's an entertaining thought. I did half decent on the test.

I know it's still basically two months away, but I'm already really excited for March Madness. I know. I'm ridiculous.

Um... I'm done now. Taking a break to watch the Utah State game. I love when they get ranked. I actually get to see their games on tv! (Even if it doesn't start until 11, it's still awesome.)
K, bye.

COME ON! Put the Utah State Aggies in the tourney!

Wow, I'm frustrated. It was really disappointing that Utah State lost last night in the WAC tournament final. However, I was feeling ok because ESPN's Joe Lunardi, their "bracketologist," had Utah State as a lock for getting an at-large bid to the tourney. However, I look at his bracket now, and we're considered one of the last 2 teams to get in. This is historically a BAD spot for the Aggies to be in. We get shafted a lot. We ended our season with a 17 game winning streak, won our regular season conference (which is a top 10 ranked conference), have a top 30 RPI... and yet we might not get in. I hate it. I wish it was less subjective and money-driven.

Argh. They better get in.

Hmmm... k, see ya.

UPDATE!
Heck yes!  They read my blog and put the Aggies in the BIG DANCE!  I'm pumped!

The best band you probably haven't heard of, and MARCH MADNESS!

I know I've plugged Imagine Dragons multiple times, but they really deserve some credit! They're a GREAT band just getting some traction in the biz. They've recently released their first EP on iTunes and will soon be releasing their second. Many of their songs are available on their MySpace. I really like this band, and think they're really going places. (I'm NOT just saying this because I know one of the members of the band, (Otherwise I'd be plugging the good bands that my close friends have been in,) they are a legit favorite that I'd like even if I didn't know who a couple of them are.) Check them out, for realz.

As for March Madness, I've got it. Whatever that is supposed to mean, I'm kind of obsessed right now. I read ESPN.com all the time, and watch for updates about my Utah State Aggies. I really can't wait for the NCAA tourney. I love it. I'm pretty sure I know more about the tourney from reading all these articles than almost everyone I know. (Maybe there's a couple of you out there that have March Madness worse than I do.) Not likely. Really... I'm obsessed.

I don't think I've announced it, but the University of Utah waitlisted me. This does not bode well for BYU, as it is ranked higher. Based on my LSAT and GPA I compared favorably to other people that were accepted there, so I thought I was in for sure, but they decided to waitlist me for some reason. Oh well. We'll see what happens. Wish me luck!

A fellow Aggie fan makes it on SportsCenter's Not Top Ten, he's numero uno!

Bill Sproat lives across the street from me.  Dude's huge.  He's pretty hilarious, too.  His antics behind the basket during opposing teams' free throws are legendary here on campus, but now they've hit a national level.  Bill's effort against Idaho was on SportsCenter's Not Top Ten List.  He was number one on their countdown.  Here is the actual footage from the game on ESPN 2 as well:

Have I mentioned how much I LOVE going to the games? They are so fun. In other Utah State news, the Logan City Police have finally caught a suspect who they claim is the infamous "Logan Lurker." Dude has robbed about 20 apartments and had gotten away from a ton of them by just saying, oh, I was looking for so-and-so. He'd convince people that he was just lost, or was looking for a neighbor. Crazy that people caught him in the middle of the night and didn't catch on to the fact that they'd been robbed until the next morning. He was smooth. Anyway, it seems the police found their man as they caught him with stuff he'd stolen yesterday morning that had been reported already.

As for me, I'm apparently feeling rather sporadic today as I just accepted a "free hug" from people carrying those signs around campus on my way to work. Highly unusual for someone as non-touchy-feely as myself.
K,bye.

My school isn't always very sportsmanlike...

Ok, so I'll admit that the crowd at the Spectrum for Utah State Basketball games is sometimes VERY rude, but I must admit that I kind of love this cheer.  (Not so much when we beat a crappy team, but when we beat a tougher opponent, like Nevada for example, it is really fun.)  I thought that it originated with our school, but like almost all of our cheers (except the occasional individualized chants like "Babbitt, Babbitt, Babbitt..."  (For Luke Babbitt during the Nevada game)) we actually stole it from other schools I think.

Here is one of the many times that I participated in this chant, and this clip is great because I just particularly liked the ESPN U commentators' reactions to it:

Calm down, Jeff. --A little advice from Abe Lincoln.

"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be." - Abraham Lincoln

(Abe has some great quotes, and some that are NOT cool. Like I've said to many friends, being a history major is no fun because it destroys your pleasant view of all your historical heroes. In other words you find out that they're human.)

I think I have been acting really stressed lately. I always make myself sick when I get like this. It's like I always feel like there's some part of my life that is deficient and needs urgent fixing and I rush from deficiency to deficiency. Then I eventually have a day like today when I get a bad headache and realize that I can just calm down and things will be just fine. And they will be. For real. I have nothing to be stressing about really. Things will work out, they always do for me when I just keep a positive attitude. (See President Hinckley quote on my Quotes post.)

So, I'm choosing to be happy for now. Thanks Abe!

Lost starts tonight, and I'm pretty darn pumped for it. However, I need to request that NO one tells me anything about it until I have a chance to see it tomorrow. I have institute tonight.

The Utah Jazz are awesome. I was worried during the 3rd quarter of their game last night that they might drop it to the Mavericks, but they held on and won by about 10. That's 6 W's in a row. Do you know who else has 6 W's in a row? Yes, my Utah State Aggies. Awesome. They got a good pairing for ESPN's BracketBusters and will hopefully come out on top over Wichita State, especially because it's in the Spectrum.

Well, I'll see ya later.
